Productive Sectors and Trade

  • The long term outcome to which this project aims is to enhance Private Sector capacity to prevent new infections and mitigate the socio-economic impact of HIV/AIDS in the Workplace (and in the community). The objectives are to build capacity for integration of HIV and AIDS into private and informal sectors with clearly defined policies and implementation guidelines and protocols and to facilitate implementation and monitoring of workplace policies that combat HIV/AIDS as a means for mitigating the impact of the disease.

  • The programme aims at identifying and supporting markets/value chains that contribute to significant employment creation and/or improved access to goods and services for the ones who are trapped in poverty.

  • Improving Market Access for Drylands Commodities Project, also known in its short name as the Market Access Project (MAP), was implemented in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from 2004-2008. The overall objectives of the project are to contribute to the reduction of poverty in the drylands, to ensure that dryland populations benefit from systems of good governance for natural resource management, to improve management and utilization of drylands natural resources.

  • Implemented by the National AIDS Control Council (NACC) and the Ministry of Planning National Development and Vision 2030, the Joint Programme aims to have an equitable human rights and gender based multisectoral response to HIV mainstreamed, operationalized and sustained in planning and budgets as well as sectoral programmes and policies.

  • The project aims to strengthen the capacity of the National Empowerment Network of People Living with HIV & AIDS (NEPHAK) and Civil Society Organizations to influence national HIV & AIDS policies, programmes and processes. By specifically working with people living with HIV and AIDS, the project aims to enhance GIPA principles for a better and rights based national HIV response. The CSO partner for this project is the Kenya AIDS NGO Consortium (KANCO).

  • [CLOSED] National Social Economic Council Public-Private Dialogue

    The main objective of the project is to improve the business environment through policies, laws and regulations conducive to private sector development. A more specific objective is to support to the National Economic and Social Council (NESC) to ensure that public-private sector dialogue takes place on the basis of solid analysis and information.

  • This is a standing committee comprising of eminent persons with diverse experience, knowledge, and skills that is chaired by H.E the President or Hon. Minister for Finance in his absence. The committee provides expert advice on economic and social matters to H.E. The President and the Cabinet. A summary of the functions of the Council (interpreted from Kenya Gazette Notice No. 7699 of September 24, 2004) are:

  • The FANIKISHA initiative is a joint effort by UNDP-Kenya and Equity Bank to promote Women Entrepreneurs in the country.UNDP estimates that 53% of rural women and 63% of urban women live below the poverty line. It is also estimated that 85% of businesses in the informal sector and 48% of small and micro-enterprises are owned by women who face the twin challenge of lack of business skills and financing.
