Objectives

OBJECTIVES
The long-term goal of national youth development interventions should be to create for now and for the next generation a youth that is autonomous, supportive, responsible and committed. The Youth Sounding Board approach therefore aims to achieve this objective through the following mechanisms:

  • Nurturing and mentoring the next generation of Youth Leaders supporting Kenya’s implementation of the Agenda 2030 for sustainable development, Kenya’s Vision 2030 and the Big four Agenda
  • Creating /supporting sectoral transformation roadmaps with the Youth at the center (e.g. peace and security; GBV; mental health, unemployment etc.)
  • Creating global, regional and country goals linkages to Kenya Youth Development frameworks and activities
  • Supporting measures to unlock policy bottlenecks and linkages to resources needed to achieve youth development goals.

Objectives of the Youth Sonding Board

  • To create platforms/leadership mechanisms for grassroots young women and men to meaningfully engage.
  • To support the National Youth Council to develop and regularly update a Youth Fact Book.
  • Establish a monitoring framework for the implementation of strategies towards affirmative action targeting the youth. This will be made accessible to all young people throughout the country i.e. through use of digital platforms to solicit  feedback from young people.
  • Establish a UNDP in Kenya Youth Sounding Board as a third-party monitoring and engagement mechanism.
  • Support the National Youth Council in conducting social audits and publicly disclose results including through public media, print and electronic
  • Hold regular/community and grass-root forums for “verbal autopsies” on the status of youth programmes- economic, political and social, by both government and non-governmental stakeholders, including the United Nations system.
