"Our mission is to engage in upstream policy dialogue and advocacy for sustainable human development."
Outreach component As part of the MDG campaign, the Strategic Outreach unit designed an African -print wrap/sarong that is worn by women all over East Africa. Traditionally, the khanga is a rectangular cotton print with an array of bold colors. A Swahili proverb is usually written two inches from the margin of the fabric. On the cloth, we have printed the MDGs both in Swahili and in English to make it understandable to the average Kenyan. It is the first of it's kind for the UN system in Kenya, and will soon be produced by other UN agencies that also have seen its value as a promotional and "Kenya-friendly" advocacy item. The Strategic outreach Unit was voted top 20 in the list of Administrator's Innovation and commitment awards, 2004 Global Staff Forum for this khanga.. Mr. Seraphin Njagi co-ordinates the activities run by the unit in his capacity as head of the unit. Click here for contacts. Unlike the other four programme components, Strategic Outreach does not manage development projects per se, but provides strategic support to the Country Office in its outreach to partners and stakeholders. Welcome to Outreach Unit pageThis component of UNDP’s support aims at promoting strategic partnership for aid and donor coordination and advocacy initiatives related to Sustainable Human Development paradigm and its mainstreaming into the country’s policy, planning and visioning frameworks. It also provides periodic analysis of and intelligence on socio-economic and trends, advocating and promoting a culture of achieving the millennium development goals. UNDP supported the Government in preparing background documentation, papers and reports for presentation to the Consultative Group meeting.
