Gender Equality

Women's Empowerment

Gender equality and the empowerment of women are central to UNDP’s work and mandate, and a mean for attaining Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We work on improving lives of women and their access to social, economic and legal rights. Globally, UNDP supports international and national efforts to mainstream gender and women’s empowerment, making women’s and men’s concerns and experiences an integral dimension into all our areas of work guided by our Gender Equality Strategy. Our premise is that countries will not be able to fulfill their development potential without promoting gender equality; and unless women and girls are able to fully realize their rights in all spheres of life, human development will not be advanced. UNDP, through its joint program on Gender Equality and Women Empowerment aims to achieve the following results: (i) increased women’s leadership and participation in governance; (ii) strengthened women’s economic empowerment; (iii) increased protection of women & access to justice for women; and (iv) strengthened women’s leadership in peace building and humanitarian response. more
