In many emerging oil rich countries in Africa journalists lack the knowledge and skills to report and write in-depth stories on oil, gas and mineral issues. UNDP in partnership with media council of Kenya trained journalists on emerging issues in the extractive industry since an active and knowledgeable press plays a critical role in helping inform and engage the public, citizen groups and parliaments on the sector and help them hold government and companies accountable.
